A Midwest state divided by the Missouri River, rolling plains and fertile farm land, hills and deep canyons. The prairie plains meet the Black Hills.
Population is 775,933 in 05 a 2.8% increase over 2000. Unemployment is at 2.9%. Taxes are friendly, but do not quite have Wyoming whipped.
Harney Peak is 7242 ft in the Blakc Hills and Big Stone Lake at 966ft. Continental Climate with four very distinct seasons. Severe hot dry spells in the summer with 90+ temp days cooling to 60’s in the night.
A service industry, retail, finance and health care main gross products. Gold, silver, copper and lead are mined as well. The desirable Black Hills has the largest gold mine in the nation, Homestake Mine. South Dakota is also home to the distinguished Black Hills Gold jewelry. Mount Rushmore brings many annual visitors, while in South Dakota they also enjoy the many caverns, Wind Cave, Badland National Park, and Corn Palace.
